The trailer for Rent The Movie is out. According to sources, it is being previewed before certain Star Wars: Episode III and Crash shows. Since I havent seen either one yet, I have obtained a copy of it through other means. The impresion so far is very mixed: I do think Rosario Dawson is a good casting choice for Mimi (from little that can be seen); on the other hand, I am not sure how much the movie is going to win or loose being taken off the stage and into a real-life setting. One of the big reasons behind the succes of Chicago was that it kept its theatrical atmosphere. Judging from the trailer, Rent is going in a slightly different direction. It could work (especially for those who have never seen the original production on Broadway), but I do fear that the intimate feeling of the play will be lost.
