Dear friends,On August 12, 2005, Katya, the 4-year-old daughter ofour friends Sasha Polishchuk and Masha Nemirovskaya,was diagnosed with diffuse instrinsic pontine glioma,the worst form of pediatric brain cancer. The outlookis very grim, and the average life expectancy,according to the doctors, is les than a year. Allstandard methods of treatment are known to provide nolong-term cure.Katyas family is trying to give her every posiblechance for survival and is exploring all treatmentoptions, including experimental ones available in theUS and abroad. Most of these treatments are expensiveand not fully covered by insurance if covered at all.The struggle for Katyas life is going to bephysically and emotionally draining for the wholefamily.
