Rent The Musical will be made into the movie. Production is scheduled to start early this year, for the holiday season release (Christmas time is very appropriate for this particular one). Nearly all of the original cast (Broadway run of 1996) is back. Which could be good or bad. Good because at least we are guaranteed that they do not horribly miscast the leads (as was the case with the Phantom, where out of 3 leads, one was excellent, one was not bad, and one was absolutely mised). The negative side of recasting the same actors is that all of them are too old for the parts. Per play, characters are in their early-to-mid-twenties. Also, one of the great things allowing the musical to run so succesfully on Broadway till this day is the constant rotation of the cast, with the new talanted singers going through the show. But in any case, should be very interesting, as this is definitely one musical that I would love to have in my DVD collection.
