Dave Matthews Live at SBC Park
Great concert at a wonderful location. SBC Park turned out to be a smaller than expected, but very cozy setting for the concert. As the sun went down, the backdrop of Oakland Harbor lights, as well as an occasinal ship pasing by, made the atmosphere even more unreal.One of the many pleasant surprises of the night were the Black Eyed Peas, who were opening for Dave. Over-the-top energetic, performing for well over an hour, they definitely brought the crowd up to their feet. And, of course, Fergies voice is unbelievable. It is rare to hear someone sounds as good live as they do in a studio, but she definitely pulls it off.Dave Matthews Band is one of the best jam bands touring the coutry right now. CDs and studio recordings do not do them justice, and many people do not expect the type of energy and musical ability that you see at a live show. Some argue that they filled the space vacated by Greateful Dead, as the top touring jam band. In either case, the live shows are where they are the best, with various guests joining them on stage, most prominent one being Tim Reynolds, who came out to close the set. Interesting balance of songs, with fair amount being more well-known ones from Crash and Under the Table and Dreaming, but a few from newer albums as well. Overall, one of the best concerts in some time.
